Actually, it sounds to me like a very standard acknowledgement of your accomplishments. You might send him a short note of appreciation, tell him you're happy to hear from him and ask him what he's been up to lately and that you'd love to keep in touch. What kind of answer you get, if any, will tell you a lot.
